"THIS IS SOME BENJAMIN BUTTONS SHIT!!!!"

tavi

A recent post over at the slammin' Afresh Vintage reminded me of fashion wunderkind und 'muse du jour' Tavi Gevinson...WHO IS 13 YEARS OLD. ALLEGEDLY. While it's somewhat comforting to know that Cory Kennedy's throne has been usurped (and by a significantly more precocious and articulate tweener), I can't help but feel like the mushrooming 'Tavi phenomenon' is the super-hipster-avant version of Toddlers & Tiaras.

Somebody check Tavi for an ironic gold-front flipper, please. STAT.

The girl has some seriously great style. I wonder what her parents think about her sudden fame?

i'm with louise - what must the parents think? if i were her mother, i don't think i'd be too supportive of it.

kids these days!

also, i had entirely forgotten about cory kennedy. has the rest of the world done so as well?

I've been reading her blog for a while now. I really don't know what to think... She's a really interesting character. What I always think about is how exactly did she get there. She goes to fashion week and meets marc jacobs?!? Is she from some super upper east side family... I can't figure it out.

I'm with everyone else in having mixed emotions about her. It can't be good for someone her age to have that much exposure, she's basically like a celebrity. I want to see where she is in 10 years.

I love her! I can't get enough of her. She just lets the creativity flow!

Considering I TEACH kids her age, I would just ADORE to have many many of her in class.

She just makes me go "ehhhh...." I don't see what's so great and praise-worthy about name-dropping and ugly clothing. Maybe if she were designing, or interested in the history of fashion...but this is just another version of screaming tweengirl fandom. I hope she grows out of it. The fashion industry is a scary place.
