The Vintage Kitchen

Have you ever found yourself watching HGTV's House Hunters and rolling your eyes at the boners that everyone seems to get over granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and kitchen islands? Yeah, us too.

Funny you should post that. We did an episode of House Hunters International that just aired for the first time last night (in the US). But because we are in Italy we didn't get granite. We got marble. We also don't have an island but we did manage to get a bar!

(our episode is called, Taking Off to Torino, if you see it).

Our kitchen currently looks a bit like #3 and I. Do. Not. Like. I'll take either of the last two, please.

oh man! I totally missed HHI last night, but The Boy and I watch it almost every week night since it's one of the few prime-time shows that we can agree on. Hopefully we'll catch a repeat of it soon!

We had a 1970s turquoise blue electric stovetop and range with an original brushed metal hood at our last apartment. It was love at first site. I think anytime you can potentially match your cosmetics to your kitchen appliances, you're doing quite well for yourself.

I have such a fondness for retro stoves. Too bad the good ones I find never work. (and not like I would want to haul it up a tall flight of stairs, either.)

{geez. you know you've been putzing around the internet too long when you start swapping 'site' for 'sight'}

@Amanda have you seen this site? Having never owned a home, I've never priced a major kitchen appliance and therefore don't know how relatively outrageous these might be, but they're pretty awesome-looking.

There may or may not be an unattractive thread of drool hanging from my mouth as a result of viewing the second and last photos.

Me and MCB's house in Louisiana had PINK toilet, tub, and sink. I miss that bathroom.

i am on the floor salivating. no, really. the scary thing is how placid everyone looks. and those shoes. you can't really truly cook in a vintage kitchen unless you're wearing those shoes. and here I am in merrells, facing my still being renovated kitchen that is meant to look older and sweeter than it did before. sacrilege.

I'm dying for a turquoise KitchenAid stand mixer. Is that weird? Especially cuz I'm 23?

nice to know i'm not the only one who doesn't understand the love of granite, I'd much rather have recycled glass or concrete and lots of wood!

Yes! Haha! Good to know I'm never alone in my thoughts.
