For The Birds

As I probably need not tell you, Gentle Reader, Tippi Hedren is a favored costume among the five or six women nationwide who thumb their noses at the prevailing hegemon by not dressing up as harlots for Whore-O-Ween. It's a fabulous alternative and a unique option in that it permits its wearer to be at once classically-styled and grotesquely ravaged (while also giving her some degree of credibility among the intelligentsia, who, I hear, love old films).

Well, while reading the always fabulous Kingdom of Style today, I discovered that some clever fellow Etsians have blessedly made all of our Tippi costumes a whole lot easier by mounting a pair of belligerent crows on a headband. GENIUS! I, for one, will be wearing this at many inopportune moments.

I think the green suit you found is even better than the one Tippi wore.

That's a brilliant costume! Honestly, I'd be tempted to wear it on an everyday basis.

this is a great costume and i cant believe ive never seen it before! something to think about for next year. ive already decided to go as sherlock holmes.

i think the burt reynolds photo is more funny than it is sexy, but you have to admit that his butt looks great.

That is one of the most clever costumes I've ever seen. That green suit is gorgeous! Great headband, it cracked me up when I first saw, such a good idea though!
I'm with you, I hate trampy Halloween costumes too!

Excellent idea. Halloween has only just caught on in Australia in the last five years and I don't think anyone would have thought of this one yet. Great tip for the party I'm going to.

Ha, that headband is amazing. You read my mind, I went as Tippi one Halloween (the other costume that year was Amelia Earhart, equally as stylish). I already had a 60s dress, fake birds, and fake blood, so it was so unbelievably easy.

I love that headband! Great Suit too.

Just a note to readers: Please don't ruin good vintage for costume use.... if you look around there is lots of wounded vintage out there. I once was at a party where a women had taken a perfect 50s Ceil Chapman gown, shredded it and sprayed fake blood all over it; now that was a horror to see! I didn't have the heart to tell her she'd just destroyed a $500+ vintage dress.
